The question of cost is almost always one of the first - and that is entirely understandable. Below we explain what the price of a funeral actually consists of, what can be calculated in advance and what depends on the family’s individual choices. We want this knowledge to relieve stress, not add to it.
What makes up the cost of a funeral?
The total cost is the sum of two groups of items, which are worth separating because they go to different recipients:
- Funeral home services - preparing and dressing the body, a coffin or urn, cold storage, transport, ceremony services, documentation.
- External fees - the grave plot and the cemetery administration fees, cremation (if chosen), the service of a priest or a master of ceremonies, flowers, an obituary.
The quote should identify the recipient and scope of each fee. Ask for a breakdown of the funeral director's services and external costs, and confirmation of the full amount before ordering.
Traditional funeral versus funeral with cremation - the difference in price
Compare costs for the specific options. Cremation has its own fee, and the cost of an urn burial place depends on the cemetery and burial type. An existing grave or a new niche may produce different comparisons. Both forms allow a dignified farewell; the choice should reflect the wishes of the deceased and family.
How much are the cemetery fees in Warsaw?
The fees are set by the administration of the particular cemetery and differ between necropolises. They include, among others, the lease of the plot (e.g. for 20 years), the interment fee and the charge for use of the infrastructure. This item is independent of the funeral home - we help to reserve and settle it, and we check the exact rates for the cemetery in question.
The funeral allowance reduces the actual cost
For deaths from 1 January 2026 the ZUS allowance rate is PLN 7,000; for deaths up to 31 December 2025 it is PLN 4,000. Payment requires the ZUS conditions to be met. The amount also depends on the payer's status and any sharing of costs. We help prepare Z-12 and authorisation for payment to the funeral director. Any arrangement without an advance payment, additional amount and payment date is agreed individually after checking the documents and quote.
How to reduce the cost consciously - without losing dignity
- If considering cremation, compare the full quote with a traditional funeral, including the burial place and cremation itself.
- Choose a coffin or urn in the economy standard - a dignified finish without the most expensive ornamentation.
- Check entitlement to the allowance and agree with the funeral director how an awarded amount will be settled and when payment is due.
