Formalities at the parish
The basis is agreeing the date with the parish - usually the one for the deceased's place of residence or for the cemetery. The parish office may ask for death certificate and information about the sacraments received (e.g. a certificate if the funeral is to take place in another parish). We handle these arrangements on the family's behalf.
How the ceremony proceeds
A traditional Catholic funeral usually includes:
- The funeral mass in church for the intention of the deceased.
- Funeral procession - the procession with the coffin or urn to the burial place.
- Rite at the graveside - prayer, the last farewell and the committal to the grave.
It is also possible to have a Mass with the body before the cremation, followed by burial of the urn - the Church permits this.
What to prepare
- Death certificate and the documents of the deceased.
- The decision on form (coffin or urn) and the place of burial.
- Any wishes regarding the arrangements - readings, music, flowers.
- Details for the death notice and the obituary, if they are to be included.
