What documents are needed for a funeral?
- Death card - issued by a doctor; the basis for all further steps.
- Death certificate - from the Civil Registry Office, on the basis of the medical certificate of death.
- ID card of the deceased (it is cancelled at the civil registry office, USC).
- Details of the person making the arrangements and - in the case of burial in an existing grave - documents confirming the right to the grave.
The medical certificate of death and the death certificate - what is the difference?
Death card is a medical document issued by the doctor who certifies the death. On its basis, the civil registry office (USC) issues death certificate - an official document needed for the burial and also for banking, inheritance and benefit matters. It is worth asking for several copies of the death certificate, because different institutions each require their own copy.
Formalities at the cemetery and the parish
The next stage is plot reservation at the cemetery and setting the date of the ceremony. For a Catholic funeral we agree the date of the Mass with the parish, and for a secular one with the master of ceremonies. We handle all these arrangements for the family, ensuring a coherent and dignified ceremony.
The allowance and matters after the funeral
After the funeral you are entitled to ZUS funeral allowance (PLN 7,000 from 2026) - we help compile the application, and the benefit can often be assigned to the funeral home. We also advise on cancelling documents and notifying institutions.
